Air condition of chevrolet astro van problem !?

Well i have a tiny leak in the AC system and i did not find freon 12 so the dealer changed to freon134 without any replacements and he told me that he did the same thing before without any problems ,the AC gave a cool air FOR 2 months before it stoped again , now i find in the market freon134 with seal and i found also F12 and there is a gas leak detector in the market and AC stop leak that some freinds advice me to use it but the other asked me to leave it cause it will create other problems but both of them told me it is better to add a small quantity of compressor oil which i think it is better to do it by myself cause i will save each time more than $20 so i will buy gauges ,14oz of gaz and vacuum tool and compressor oil and will try to refill again but which gaz should i use?

Just use the 134 freon w/ stop leak. if it's a small leak it will work. and it does not cause any problems.

It only blows hot defrost. climate control not working at all. Have no book.

The vacuum to the dash is the first problem. Get that fixed and you should have all the airflow positions back. That older system was the first generation atc, and used a temp. sensor under the dash pad to control the a/c function. It also used a vacuum servo to control the blend door. Thus it is possible, that by repairing the vacuum supply line to the dash, that it all may start working like it should. As long as the a/c system under the hood still functions, that is. But that is where to begin, and good luck!!

the top air conditioning condensation drain line leaking. Is this bad? how do I fix this?

i checked the unit in the attic and a little pipe connected into the a/c unit is dripping into the pan and the top condensation drain lines is leaking. the bottom condensation drain line looks like its not leaking. thank you for your help

go to the hardware store and buy a piece of hvac refrigerant line insulation. the line that is dripping water is the liquid line. it's colder than the hot air in the attic so it condenses water. wrap it in insulation and tape it up. EASY!

as far as the drains go, you have a primary and a secondary drain. have the primary drain cleaned. if there is a clog in the primary drain, the secondary drain acts as an overflow. if this is the case, you can walk around the outside of the house and will probably see a pvc stub pipe dripping water in a very visible place. it's kind of a warning that the primary drain is clogged and needs service.

some folks unclog their drains by using bleach, a clothes hanger and such. or, if you have a compressor, you can try blowing some air down the drain. you can also remove the pea trap and clean it there. GL with it!

Don't take this personally, but if you use phrases like "digital ac thermometer thing" then you aren't qualified to repair an air conditioner. You can check simple things like the circuit breaker. But if it is tripped, it is usually for a reason. And if it trips multiple times, there definitely is a problem. If you aren't satisfied with the last co. Try another one. There are lots of companies in the yellow pages. Or ask a friend or neighbor if they know someone they can recommend.

What are the main reason's why you would choose high velocity air conditioning verses forced air conditioning?

We have an old house, but I have different estimates one saying they could install forced air and others stating they could do HVAC. Which one is better when given both choices? Should forced air be significantly cheaper to install?

HVAC is an initial-ism / acronym that stands for " heating , ventilation , and air conditioning.
I believe that the systems your referring to are one in the same.
Someone may just be trying to BS you with the terminology. Check your estimates and do your own research before signing anything. Look up the different units and check their cost vs. efficiency.

What's the difference between Precision Air-conditioning Units (PACU's) and ordinary split type aircons?

contractors are giving me quotations, with different type of aircons. I don't know what to choose. I just wanna know the difference between the two?

Cost. If it is a precision type, it will control temperature more accurately, but cost more for the controls involved. It really depends on what you want to achieve with your air-conditioner. Split units only means that the compressor/condenser is outside, and the evaporator is inside, that is all that is meant by an air conditioner being "split". This is good old fashioned "jargon" and if you don't know it, all to their good if they can get you to buy more than what you want, or need. Once you have what you want, keeping the sun off of the condenser unit outside is a good idea. Just don't have the cover to close to the unit since the fan needs space above it to move the air that is being heated up and away from the unit. Condensers are always going to get warm since this is what is making the refrigerant a liquid again. It is the heat of compression being discharged, so this is a normal event.

Don't wait until the hot weather is upon us before maintaining your central air conditioner. A little preventative care now will help to ensure your system keeps you cool through the hot months ahead. Here is a guideline for an early season check-up and maintenance reminders.

Airflow: Although this seems like a simple point, most people don't realize that central air conditioners must have plenty of air flow to run efficiently. The following maintenance tips will help prevent any problems that may result because of lack of proper air flow:

Clean filters regularly.

Remove any debris or leaves from the unit.

Keep the condensing coils clean by brushing them and hosing them down.

Shrubs or plants that may inhibit air flow should be kept at least 18 inches away from the condenser.

Identify the condensate drain for signs of blockage or leaking. It's normal to see water dripping when the unit is running.

Inside the house, ensure registers are unobstructed and clear of furniture or other objects.

Professional Maintenance:

If it becomes necessary to hire a technician, make sure this person is a qualified air conditioning technician. Inexperienced or poorly trained technicians may not perform a thorough inspection of your unit, or may not take the preventative measures necessary to avoid future problems. The investment for a professional, but in the long run may lead to expensive problems that could have been avoided.

At the very least, the inspector should perform the following checks:

Check refrigerant levels and top up if necessary.

Test for refrigerant leaks.

Inspect the ducts for leakage and seal if necessary.

Clean the blower and all its parts.

Inspect the evaporator coil and measure the air flow.

Oil the motors and check the belts, replacing if necessary.

Look for leaks or backup in the condensate system.

Check the operating temperatures and pressures.

Ensure the thermostat is accurate.

The above tips are only guidelines and will not ensure you won't have problems with your central air conditioner. However, they may help to avoid costly repairs by catching them early.

Heat Pump Maintenance

Some homeowners get their air conditioning via a heat pump system. These too require regular maintenance, and although should be inspected by a qualified technician, there are some regular checks you can do yourself.

Replace filters regularly.

Lubricate components regularly.

Keep unit free of debris and dirt. Clean the updraft fans by turning off the heat pump, removing the grille (screwed to the frame), and vacuuming the fan blades.

Place a level across the top of the metal unit side to side and back to back to ensure the heat pump hasn't shifted since last season.

Check the pipe for any deterioration and replace any insulation that has worn away.

If you find the coil blocked with ice, chances are there is some sort of obstruction inhibiting adequate air flow.

If the pump will not run, it may have become overloaded. Wait 30 minutes and press the reset button on the outside of the unit.

As long as there have been windows in buildings it has been recognized that they are a source of draftiness, heat loss or gain, migration of air contamination as well as their original purpose, to provide light and ventilation. Originally, windows were simply openings in the building envelope that allowed in light. They were closed with wooden shutters and covered with draperies to help keep out the cold. The advent of glass allowed for the development of window sashes that permitted light to enter, but kept out (some of) the cold when closed.

The first attempts to provide better energy efficiency and eliminate some of the draftiness were storm windows. Originally, these were simply wooden frames, glazed with a single sheet of glass, that were mounted over the exterior of the existing window. They effectively provided "double glazing" but no ventilation, so it was an annual ritual in the Fall to install the storm windows and in the Spring, to remove them. Later developments provided operating sash storm windows in which the meeting rail, or where the sashes came together, closely aligned with that of the prime window. These were quite effective, but still allowed some air convection through loose-fitting sashes and poor weatherstripping.

Modern insulated glass came into being in the early 1970s. Two pieces of glass, a separator and a sealant were formed into a single unit "sandwich" that was glazed into sashes designed to accept the thicker pane. The dead-air space in the sandwich reduced the heat transference through the glass (conduction), but windows were still drafty at the meeting rails and around the edges of the sashes (convection). Wool pile weatherstripping with Mylar fins helped eliminate much of the convection and the modern, energy efficient window came into being.

The insulated glass units were originally about 1/2 to 5/8 inches thick. Testing showed that the greater the dead-air space in the sandwich, the more energy efficient the unit, so windows were redesigned to accept thicker panes of insulated glass, up to 1 inch in depth.

It was reasoned that if two lites (panes) of glass reduced conduction, three lites would be even more efficient. . . and triple-glazing was born. Because of frame web and sash weight limitations, this was usually applied to commercial structures with fixed glass. Residential buildings were usually were fitted or retrofitted with "double-glazing" in the windows.

In and effort to improve the energy efficiency of window glass a clear film was suspended between the lites of glass in an insulated unit, to further reduce conduction. This improved the energy efficiency markedly. Then came "low emmissivity" glass. It was discovered that glass could be coated with a microscopic film of metal that would reflect heat without reducing the visibility very much. Depending upon the climatic conditions where the windows were to be installed, the Low-E glass would have the coating on either the number two or three surface in the glass unit, i. e. in a warm climate, the surface coated would be the inside of the inside lite of glass in the insulated sandwich, thus reflecting the heat to the outside. In a cooler climate, the inside of the outside lite of glass would be coated to reflect the heat to the inside.

It has been estimated by the window industry that modern insulating glass has reduced the energy loss through windows by as much as 80% or more. The fringe benefit is the reduction of outside noise by more than half.
