air filter home

When you are thinking about home improvement and the summer at the same time, a new air conditioner is probably the first idea that comes to mind. While this is an option, there are other tips which can help you to keep cool during the summer. They are easy, effective, and inexpensive.

Many people these days are not familiar with cross-ventilation. However, it is a wonderful alternative to dealing with the expense of running an air conditioner throughout the entire day and night. The old-fashioned method of cross-ventilation simply means keeping the windows in your home open, especially during the hours when the summer heat is not at its peak. When the air is allowed to move in and out of your home, you will be pleasantly surprised at how refreshing it is to you.

Keeping your windows shaded with blinds or curtains when the heat is at its peak is essential. This will help you to keep cool by preventing the sunlight and heat of the outdoors from bringing unwanted heat into your home. If you choose dark colors for your curtains, this will add to the feeling of coolness in the room.

Even during the hottest time of the day, you can be cool and energy-efficient at the same time. Instead of using an air conditioner, you can use a small fan that is the right size and output for the room where you spend most of your time. Depending upon your preference, you can have a circulating fan or a stationary fan. Not only will you stay cool, you will find your energy bills to be much lower.

The more airtight you can make your home, the more effective you will find your air conditioner or fans. In addition, cleaning these products on a regular basis will make them work better, and also cost less to operate. The reason for this is if you allow dust and other particles to build up in your air conditioner filter or fan, not only will it not work as well, but requires more power for it to function.

Regardless of your preferred source of cool air, drinking plenty of liquid throughout the day is one of the most beneficial ways to stay cool during the summertime. Choosing plain water, and an assortment of non-caffeinated cool beverages, will help you to avoid becoming dehydrated, as well as keeping you cool. You will enjoy all of the fun and relaxation of summer much more when you feel cool and healthy.
