People surf the net and get into travel websites to search for great bargains and deals for getting attractive rates on vacation accommodation. They are on the look out for advertisements that offer last moment discounts and standby discount rates. Some such sites do offer some other variation of the same theme. And, most of these advertisements promise heavy discounts on the published rates. So what do these activities mean and what should the potential client understand about this particular hospitality market sector. Discount sites function as the links between price conscious buyers and low cost accommodation options; and these are usually subject to a time limit also. One has to raise the awareness of potential buyers as there is an un-stated clause of "let the buyer beware" in this sector also.
In all probability, the buyer will be completely in agreement to the type of accommodation allocated to him in accordance with the specifications given at the time of booking. However, as a buyer, there are some things that need to be borne in mind. Travel Companies' websites that offer last minute standby or discounted accommodation packages use it to off-load their unsold stock or space. The limitation with some of the discount sites is that a booking can only be made some three or four weeks in advance. One does not get the opportunity to use these sites to book one's annual vacation some six months in advance for a confirmed offer during peak times of the season.
Off season periods witness a decrease in the occupancy rates. This provides an opportunity for property managers to sell out their units at discounted rates. They are satisfied with this income because the money paid by the guests as discounted rates will cover at the least the operating costs, and this should be better than no guests at the hotel. It is a fact that every resort or apartment block will have some units or spaces that are hard to sell, for instance, the ground floor or first floor units without panoramic views, or the back of the house rooms that overlook the adjoining building, or some poorly maintained rooms where the property owner has not spent adequate money to refurbish them. Even in that case, the owner will still be expecting some sort of a return on his investment.
Of course, it is hard to sell out these rooms to the guests by making them pay the full tariff. The practical solution to this dilemma is to sell such units through discount websites. Rooms in the low level floor, rooms with worn out furnishings and fittings, lack of maintenance services and poor air conditioning are some factors responsible for some rooms ending up in the discount pool. Guests that pay the full tariff will almost always get the best units, and they will be inclined to come back next year, and they may provide good word of mouth publicity also.

Did I get taken advantage of by my auto technician?
I just recently purchased a used car from Carmax and noticed that the air conditioning wasn't that cold. When i took it to Carmax to have them recharge the A/C for free, a typical repair that was covered under the purchase agreement, the tech working on my car didn't even bother to do any sort of diagnostic test of the A/C. He told me the A/C temp was fine. in his words, "If you turn on the A/C and the recycle interior cabin air together, your fingers should feel a biting after just a few seconds holding it up to the A/C vents." I feel like I got taken advantage of. Did I? What should I do in the future when I get an auto repair technician who I think is giving me crappy service and trying to take advantage of me?
You should have asked to speak to his superior so either your car would have been properly serviced or a proper explanation of why it didn't need service.
It may be that it is working correctly but the mechanic didn't properly explain the situation. Call the place and talk to a supervisor so you can return and get it taken care of. Being really nice when calling will get you lots better and faster service than being cranky.
good luck

air conditioning covers
Even with routine maintenance service, the time still may come when an air conditioner will need to be repaired. If this, or any other problem, occurs and one feels confident enough to attempt minor repairs without calling an air conditioning contractor, there are ways that the task(s) can be accomplished.
Before anything is done, the power to the air conditioner should be shut off. Most circuit boxes have a separate switch that controls power to the air conditioner. If this is the case, the switch can merely flipped to "off". Otherwise, power to the entire house will have to be temporarily interrupted.
Once the power has been cut off, the grill covering can then be removed from the condenser/compressor. Since this has to be done anyway, in order to ascertain what and where the problem is, once the repair job is completed, one might want to take the time to clean the fan blades as well as the cover itself. Further, if the motor needs lubricating, that can be done so at this time. Care should be taken not to break or damage the blades, nor to loosen or break any wires.
Surprisingly, one of the main reasons why this may occur is because ants have built a nest inside the unit, and have caused an interruption in the delivery of coolant to the unit, thus resulting in decreased operation. Should this be the problem, and there has been no damage to wiring or other parts, then all that is needed is for the "works" to be protected from the strong stream of water that the homeowner is going to be blasting onto the nest. Wrapping them in plastic, or shielding them in some other way will provide adequate protection.
If the ants have caused damage to the mechanical parts of the unit, it will be necessary to call a professional. The technician can, however, make the necessary repairs, and apply a safe pesticide so that the problem will not re-occur.
