How can I tell if the ionizer on my air filter creates ozone?

I know not all ionizer air filters create ozone, and I have pets that I can't have near ozone. Other ions are fine. I just haven't been using the "Performance booster" for fear it creates ozone. I have Holmes HAP412N-U HEPA-Type Mini Tower Air Purifier.

That's a good question! HEPA filters generally do not rely on external power to ionize the air, and should produce no measurable ozone. Some electrostatic precipitators (and UV germicidal lamps that were used in smoke filters) do make ozone and possibly some nitrogen oxides, which not only damages textiles and rubber products, but even the lungs with extended use.
If there is a metal frame or pins with high voltage across it, it's suspect, but if it has an activated carbon filter afterwards, not much ozone should come through. If there is an on/off switch for the ionizer, just leave it off.
There are a number of ozone test kits, from a few dollars for one-time paper test strips (probably what you might use) to machines costing hundreds of dollars.

My air purifier smells like cigarette smoke. How do I get rid of that smell?

My grandmother gave me her old Holmes air purifier but even with a new HEPA filter it blows out air that smells like cigarette smoke. How do I properly clean it so that it smells like it's supposed to?

First of all, you need to find out where the smell is coming form. Is it from the air filter itself or maybe inside the air purifier. If you know how to open it up, you can find the source of the smell. If not, let others help you.

They cost a couple hundred bucks. I have one and I rarely use it. It didn't seem to be of any benefit as far as my allergies are concerned.

Then I got a new filter on my furnace that is the next best one to an electronic air cleaner (it cost a couple of hundred bucks too) and it seems to do a better job at cleaning the air.

Air purifier?

I have an air purifier that I usually run because I live in a basement apartment and when we moved in, we had mold and stale air problems because the windows are very small and don't provide much fresh air. My roommate says that the purifier makes the air dry and gives her nosebleeds but my mom says that it shouldn't make the air dry at all. Which is it?
We have a de-humidifier as well but she doesn't like to run that either because she says it also makes the air too dry and, again, gives her nosebleeds.

I don't think that an air purifier could cause nosebleeds, and it does not make the air "dry".
It is probably the poor air quality that is making her get nose bleeds. It is really harmful , living in moldy/ moist conditions. Get a de-humidifior, it will make a HUGE difference. (It won't cause nosebleeds either)I had mold problems in my basement, and have had no problems since putting a de-humidifior there.

Hi, I just bought a holmes HEPA air purifier (literally just bought), and within a few hour it started to make a strange electrical buzzing noise. I believe that it is coming from the ionizer, since when the ionizer is off it does not make this noise.

How much should I have paid for a Rainbow Vacuum?

I was sold a Rainbow vacuum cleaner WITH the air purifier desktop thing, 3 oils, the mopping attachment, the carpet cleaning attachment, the actual vacuuming attachment, a seperate hose, shampoo, and paid $2,400 for it all. I'm sure asking someone without knowledge of Rainbow would say I got ripped off, but is there anyone familiar with the system who could give me an honest answer?

I paid $800 for my Kirby about 15 years ago and it's still going strong. Don't feel ripped. Good quality products aren't cheap but they last forever.

And a mopping attachment. How cool is that? I have to see one.
